read more about Manchester Sinfonia and Peter Dixon

Manchester Sinfonia is a vibrant new professional orchestra who make CDs for living composers, accompany choral societies and perform concerts either as self promotions or engagements. The players are the cream of musicians in and around Manchester and produce exceptional performances of the highest quality.

Manchester Sinfonia is fortunate to have the vastly experienced Richard Howarth as the orchestra's Leader/Director/Conductor. Richard is an experienced orchestral conductor. He draws on a successful career as a violinist, playing in and leading many of the UK's orchestras. He has led the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra to name a few. Richard now enjoys heading the new Manchester Sinfonia along with his conducting commitments.

Last year Peter Dixon celebrated 20 years as principal cellist of the BBC Philharmonic. He made his début as a soloist in 1991 playing the Walton concerto at the Royal Festival Hall. Since then he has received much acclaim with his performances of the concerti by Elgar, Korngold, MacMillan and Yoshimatsu.
